Occupational therapy

Having studied as an undergraduate at Brunel University I began to look more closely at the complex disciplines that would be a part of my life for the rest of my life, those of physical impairment, mental health in acute adult services and older people, my specialist area of study looked at the involvement of service users in the provision of wheelchairs that were prescribed by the NHS the medical models of disability and impairment and how this is could effect service users in their day to day lives.

Trauma and Orthopaedics

Treating a wide variety of patients who have undergone any traumatic injury that needs surgical repair and or simple non invasive rehabilitation was part of my specialism, this often ranged from fractures to fusions in all distal and proximal areas of the body including any additional traumas that may have occurred as a result of an acquired injury.

Rheumatology

The course of everyday life can create an inflammatory response in the body that may result in various impairments, repetitive strain injury and a complex variety of illnesses treated in the specialist field of rheumatology including carpal tunnel, rheumatoid arthritis and many others treated with the use of thermoplastics and a compensatory approach over a ling term basis were all part of my responsibility in this field.

Hand therapy

This area of specialism was a complex muliti-disciplinary one that required treatment of the patients from admission to discharge following their journey through tendon injury to fractures to scar management to name but a few. This was a high paced and complex area.  For the majority of my time spent in this field I mentored and supervised students, medical professionals and healthcare professionals on a routine basis.

Pediatrics

Throughout my career I have worked with a huge expanse of ages and the specialist area of paediatrics was a challenging area as the effect of impairment on younger people can be a diurnal one the care of younger people affected by any type of injury was a journey and the team approach and care for the individual was of paramount importance.

Mental health

Psychology as a discipline has always played an important role in my athletic and working life, having studied medically focused approaches to psychology as an undergraduate I applied this across the entirety of the medical posts that I rotated through during my working life, rehabilitation and recovery after any injury or illness is a critical area and this was a major part of the process that I provided.

After seeing the impact of injury and the effect of outcome focused systems on athletes and how devastating this can be, I decided to look into the advanced applied psychology and positive psychology as a post graduate it has given me the ability to look deeper at the athletic performance and functioning of both amateur and professional athletes in competitive and non competitive settings respectively.

Coupled with a client centred theoretical approach allows me to enable both recreational and professional sports enthusiasts the opportunity to release their potential in a way that suits their bespoke needs.
